The Technical Specialist works to support the production team and office in matters regarding technical proficiencies, troubleshooting, and engages in all steps of a project. This individual works with Technical Experts and Management on product innovation, workflow scalability, creative problem solving, and business unit’s growth. The Technical Specialist influences technical growth across the organization and mentors others in technical leadership. They support scope clarification with clients and can assist in client communication. They have a good understanding of all projects the team is working on and can fill any support role. This position will work individually and as part of a team to support data production in an ArcMap, PLS-CADD and Microstation environment; finalizing data deliverables based on client requests.

Leadership Focus: 

  • Demonstrates leadership among production staff 
  • Takes ownership of work within the team for execution and QA/QC 
  • May fulfill the role of Project Technical Lead – planning, strategizing and developing workflows for new projects. 
  • Aids in hiring new team members. 
  • Reports project status, achievements, risks and solutions at weekly meetings. 
  • Assists the management with evaluation of projects, ETCs, and workflow management 
  • Provides guidance and understanding in project contracts and scope of work 
  • Assists in the monitoring of Technical KPIs 
  • Collaborates on process changes and disseminates knowledge across production teams, informs subject matter experts 
  • Applies industry and client standards to production workflows 
  • Proactively communicates across organization, presents on subject matter expertise through team meetings and projects 


Technical Focus: 

  • Demonstrates good judgement in the selection of the methods and techniques in problem resolution and troubleshooting 
  • Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to take complex information and convey it easily 
  • Excellent technical ability with ESRI, PLS-CADD and vector-based software 
  • Produces data reports and final deliverables 
  • Ability to automate workflows and tasks 
  • Takes initiative to improve processes and efficiencies 
  • Supports technical implementation of projects on a production team  
  • Influence technical growth across organization and mentor others on technical leadership 
  • Assists in client education and interaction as needed.  
  • Awareness and dissemination of industry and office standards. Proactive identification of relevant workshops, meetings and conferences 
  • Works with Technical Experts and Management on product innovation, workflow scalability, creative problem solving, and business unit’s growth

  • Proactively seeks timelines for necessary tool updates & consulting with appropriate stakeholders; ensures tools are up to date 


Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • 5+ years of experience in a professional GIS work environment 
  • Advanced knowledge of ESRI or vector-based software and TerraSolid products 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Drive 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Masters or higher 
  • Knowledge of Python, CADD, and Visual Basic 
  • Proficiency in inDesign
