NV5 is looking for Construction Materials Testing Technicians located in the New Jersey, New York areas.

Responsibilities

  • Has the knowledge and eagerness to learn and demonstrates ability to accurately perform testing according to recognized standards. The successful candidates will be provided hands on training regarding common field testing and inspection standards used in the construction industry for soils, concrete, reinforcing steel, masonry, and asphalt including ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade I, etc.
  • Perform daily field testing and occasional laboratory testing on soils, concrete and asphalt.
  • Performs field testing and measurements with the direction of project manager, field supervisor and engineering manager or supervisors.
  • Perform field testing of soil, concrete, masonry, and asphalt associated with civil engineering construction projects including ASTM, AASHTO requirements.
  • Notifies supervisor, and/or project manager of problems and deviations from plans and specifications.
  • Complete and comprehensive communication with project personnel to ensure the effective management of the project.
  • Performs field equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Perform field inspection, testing and sampling as needed.
  • Ability to make good decisions using sound, professional judgment.
  • Physical ability to perform labor-intensive work including but not limited the safe handling and transport of concrete samples, soil samples, and other lab related materials.
  • Communicates and interfaces effectively with clients and co-workers.
  • Possesses effective written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team involving staff, clients and outside agencies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying data quality issues.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field.
  • Experience with ASTM and AASHTO testing procedures for soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete and masonry ideal but not required.
  • Ability to follow directions, procedures and learn repetitive tasks.
  • Driver's License and insurable driving record.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Preferred: Nuclear Gauge Cert; ACI; NJ DCA

Office/Lab location: Rahway - NJ

 

The pay range for this New York City position is $20.00- $30.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the salary transparency provisions of the NYCHRL. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
