This role requires managers to be persuasive negotiators who can secure favorable terms with internal and external constituencies, effective leaders and collaborators with the ability to build and motivate teams, and able to manage conflict.

Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Monitor opportunity efforts for the assigned group
  • Participate in proposal preparation
  • Work with the Senior Vice President to identify and develop market opportunities that are strategically aligned with client capital improvement programs
  • Cultivate effective relationships with clients and vendors
  • Attend professional organization events and conferences

 

Product Delivery & Financial Management

  • Interact with client executives in all aspects of project delivery
  • Manage and lead other transportation managers and professionals
  • Lead the development of projects from inception to completion by defining scope, schedule, and budget in alignment with client strategic goals
  • Provide ongoing engineering review and evaluation of designs for compliance with criteria, standards and specifications on each project
  • Review and monitor design and construction document preparation from concept design through final completion, including review of change-management documents
  • Develop, maintain and report scope, schedule, and budget status throughout the project, including review and recommendation of all project invoice
  • Create and maintain, or monitor, comprehensive project documentation
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of timesheets by group staff
  • Ensure monthly compliance with budget values for individual and group utilization
  • Attend client meetings and present at public hearings

 

Staff Development

  • Set and manage group goals in support of service line and corporate goals
  • Manage resources to ensure group goals are achieved
  • Train, motivate, and provide mentoring and professional development for group staff
  • Manage individual employee performance review process for group staff
  • Ensure company values are being encouraged, celebrated, and reinforced

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, highly organized, and detail oriented with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of civil engineering experience
  • Proposal and business development experience
  • Desire and ability to manage and mentor staff
  • Strong skills in developing and securing new work
  • Software: AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred, basic Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, PowerPoint, Outlook skills
  • Project related travel will be required

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Currently licensed as a PE (Professional Engineer) in California or commitment to obtain reciprocity for PE in California within six months of hire.

 

The pay range for this California position is $155,000 - $185,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
