NV5, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, self-driven PRINCIPAL ENGINEER in the GEOTECHNICAL field for a leadership position in Northern California. The current Chico, Nevada City and Truckee offices provide consulting engineering services which include, conventional geotechnical services and construction materials testing services, as well as, advanced geotechnical engineering for hillside design, retaining structures, bridges, seismic analyses, and forensic geotechnical engineering, including public schools and hospitals. Our client base is in municipal, commercial, and public sectors. This position would assist with the current offices, and expands geographically to other northern California area with the intention of establishing a new business unit operation. 

Responsibilities

Group Management:

  • Leads by example, supports the firm’s goals and objectives, and follows the firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage large-scale, complex projects to ensure the effective functioning of the group and project deliverables.
  • Generate and/or monitor all available MIS reports to proactively manage group and office workload and profitability.
  • Manage project work in progress and accounts receivable, providing leadership to project managers and interacting with clients as appropriate to forestall and resolve problems.
  • Manage administrative staff including reception and document editing personnel including daily workflow and employee performance evaluation.

Business Development:

  • Recognizes, initiates, and advances business development opportunities.
  • Works closely with Marketing on business development opportunities.
  • Participates in project meetings, public hearings, client events, and interview presentations for new projects.
  • Independently develops and maintains client relationships and generates new revenue.
  • Prepares proposals on prospective projects, assigning project management responsibilities to group employees.

Financial:

  • Manages project and office budgets for profitability to achieve firm objectives.
  • Monitors group and office financial reports.
  • Manages office and group WIP and AR to ensure timely billing and collections.
  • Monitors and approves group weekly time and expense reports.

Leadership/Supervisory:

  • Manages all employees assigned to manager’s group.
  • Manages business unit operations.
  • Demonstrates excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Provides coaching, training, and conducts performance appraisals.
  • Prepares employee development plans to assist employees in realizing professional goals and to address performance issues.
  • Initiates and participates in recruitment efforts.
  • Disseminates publications and technical information as appropriate to foster a continuous education environment.
  • Works as part of the corporate senior management team to develop and improve processes and procedures.

Professional Development:

  • Participating member of professional organizations/associations.
  • Participates in internal Brownbag presentations.
  • Develops and manages program of internal brownbag presentations.
  • Reads professional publications.
  • Occasionally attends professional seminars.

Communication:

  • Timely and appropriately communicates to project employees, subcontractors, principal-in-charge, and clients.
  • Performs advanced level technical writing.
  • Embodies company values of open, direct and honest communication, and mentors group in this area.

QA/QC Management:

  • Understands and applies company technical manual standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures group-wide consistent application of QA/QC policies and procedures to maximize error free project deliverables.

Loss Prevention/Health & Safety:

  • Ensures group compliance with company Health & Safety and OSHA procedures.
  • Completes internal Loss Prevention Program and ensures group completion of same.
  • Ensures all group employees have completed appropriate training programs and licenses and permits are up to date.
  • Discusses project issues with principal-in-charge.
  • Coordinates with senior technical employees to resolves discrepancies with clients.

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related technical field required.
  • 10+ years of experience in related field.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Registered RG, CEG, PE, GE or equivalent.

The pay range for this California position is $180,000- $205,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
