Responsibilities

NV5 is seeking a Transportation Engineer Intern for our Cary, and/or Charltote, NC offices.  The summer intern will assist with design, calculations, and CAD support for the Transportation group. This will be a valuable experience that will allow the intern to apply knowledge received during school studies and determine the area of focus for upcoming course work. This individual will also be able to create relationships with a variety of designers, engineers and managers. The most frequent and essential work activities include:

  • Assist staff with technical support for the design of transportation related projects.
  • Coordinate work with project managers, engineers, designers and technicians.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Microstation software to prepare plans.
  • Participate in fieldwork.
  • Complete project tasks within deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Must be a rising college junior or senior studying civil engineering
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Well organized
  • Must be comfortable working with MS Word, MS Excel and learning new software as necessary
  • Knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation is a plus
  • Previous study courses in transportation and water resources (storm drainage) a plus
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment-preferred

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work will primarily be in the office setting with limited opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Work will be primarily working with fingers by picking, pinching, typing and grasping often with repetitive motion.
  • Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
