Geodynamics is currently seeking an experienced Marine Geophysicist to be based in Morehead City, North Carolina. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years professional experience in the field of marine geophysics and at least 2 years management experience leading multi-sensor projects. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in marine geophysical surveys including (but not limited to) engineering and environmental applications related to utility and subsea cable assessment and installation, offshore wind energy area development, sediment resource and cultural investigations, and / or UXO identification. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment and lead both field and office crews toward the execution of complex subsea geophysical projects.

Responsibilities

Work Environment:

  • Location: Geodynamics Office in Morehead City, North Carolina
  • This position will require periodic travel both in and out of state (Deployments may last up to 3 weeks)
  • Dog-friendly office environment

Primary Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Provide technical expertise in marine geophysical surveys using a variety of industry-standard software and sensors
  • Lead and supervise survey system integration, data quality control, geophysical survey operations, troubleshooting, data processing, and analysis
  • Support the entire geophysical project life cycle, including proposal development, survey design, mobilization, survey acquisition, QA-QC, data processing, data interpretation, and reporting
  • Lead and supervise hydrographic survey technicians in data acquisition and processing, with a focus on supporting team members’ technical growth and development
  • Provide technical and programmatic support to program and operations managers, participate in strategic planning, and strengthen the marine geophysical program at Geodynamics

Qualifications

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelors degree in Coastal/Marine Geology, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics field*
  • Masters degree preferred
  • 5+ years of job-related experience
  • Expertise in the installation, calibration, operation, post processing, analysis, and QA/QC of geophysical systems (including multibeam and singlebeam sonar, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, sparkers, boomers, marine magnetometers, transverse gradiometers, and USBL positioning systems, and inertial navigation systems)
  • Experience with industry standard software packages including CARIS HIPS/SIPS, EIVA – NaviSuite, QPS, SonarWiz, Hypack, Oasis Montaj, MagPick, Kingdom Suite, Seismic Unix, Discover, Radex Pro, Global Mapper, POS Pac, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, self-manage, and manage other
  • Ability to perform field work including travel and weekends, and the physical ability to lift objects over 50lbs
  • A commitment to seeing projects through to completion, a high attention to detail and an enthusiastic attitude
    * Additional experience can be substituted for education
