  • Performs plan reviews of commercial, residential, and industrial building additions, alterations, and new construction for compliance with building codes and local ordinances, state laws, and other regulations and standards
  • Prepares written correction letters
  • Approve plans that meet code and ordinance requirements
  • Confer with architects, engineers, contractors, and others regarding features of plans found to be out of conformance with code or where proposed design or materials are clearly unacceptable
  • Outline, clearly, reasons for non-conformance of plans
  • Maintains and updates records and database information when requested


  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience performing plan reviews for commercial, residential, and industrial projects
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of building construction
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in building construction and structural design
  • Knowledge of International and California Building Codes
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain blueprints, building plans, specifications, and calculations
  • Ability to distinguish between the intent of applicable rules and the letter of the law
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative
  • Ability to use a computer including relevant programs (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.) is required


  • International Code Council Certification: Building Plans Examiner
  • California Licensed Engineer/Architect
  • Valid California Driver’s License

The pay range for this California position is $90,000.00- $155,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
