NV5, Inc. is seeking a qualified Permit Technician/Counter Technician with a minimum of 3 years of experience providing support to public agencies. The successful candidate will provide customer support to permit applicants and assist agencies with document intake and dissemination, assess appropriate fees, process approvals, etc. The candidate will provide information and direction regarding development services department processing, permit/project status, departmental requirements, improvement standards, local ordinances, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the general public, public agency staff and others
  • Perform minor technical plan check to ensure compliance with both Public Works and Building Department standards, submittal requirements, development conditions, improvement standards, construction specifications, and city ordinances
  • Interpret and understand engineering and/or building plans, improvements standards, construction standards, building codes, maps, and legal descriptions
  • Issue and prepare permits for Public Works and Building Departments
  • Determine applicable fees and invoicing for new projects
  • Research and compile data from field verifications or office engineering records for inclusion into engineering correspondence, reports, or in response to public inquiry
  • Perform various administrative, reporting, billing and accounts receivable tasks
  • Perform data entry and coordinate routing of various permits, plans, and maps
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of federal, state and municipal code, ordinances and regulations related to building construction and permitting
  • Knowledge of zoning code application
  • Ability to communicate effectively with property owners, developers, contractors and the general public
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to accommodate changing workloads

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid CA driver’s license
  • Current permit technician certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC) preferred

The pay range for this California position is $27.00- $32.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
