The archaeology crew person will participate in field investigations to support cultural resources management and compliance.


  • Conduct fieldwork: walk 6-8 miles a day, carry heavy loads, excavate, record technical information, identify and document artifacts, features, and sites
  • Conduct lab work: artifact and sample sorting, cleaning, analysis, and curation
  • Maintain equipment and supplies
  • Write field or lab summary notes, create tables, and support report production
  • Adhere to agency guidelines and project scopes, project schedules, and safety protocols



  • Bachelor’s degree plus field school preferred

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of one year of field experience in the Southwest
  • Familiarity with New Mexico state and federal historic preservation regulations
  • Familiarity with New Mexico field and report guidelines and standards
  • Skilled with GPS unit, able to navigate with GPS or compass
  • Functional with Word programs, data management, GIS/GPS
  • Excellent communication skills
