Responsibilities

  • Advocate for, support and promote a safe working culture / environment
  • Develop, maintain, audit and regularly review the Safety Program to ensure compliance with current and future legal, regulatory, and company requirements
  • Carry out compliance through communication and application of company standards and applicable laws and regulations
  • Perform regular site visits of active projects to ensure compliance with the Safety Program
  • Develop and review Accident Prevention Plans; site safety plans; Job Hazards Analysis (JHA)’s, as directed and/or needed
  • Support project proposal efforts regarding safety statistics and company safety program information
  • Works as a team member with project managers, engineers, safety committee members and other personnel to ensure cooperation and adherence with safety program, inspection/audits, corrections and compliance
  • Lead Safety Committee, including coordination of meetings, maintain notes and assignments, etc.
  • Oversee safety training program; develop/coordinate training classes and attendees; track completed training and upcoming required training; ensure refresher training is conducted as required
  • Investigate and record safety related incidents and workmen's compensation claims, including track recommendations to ensure completion
  • Maintain all record keeping documents as required by State of NH, OSHA, DOT FMC, company policy or customer requirements; including training records, chemical safety datasheets, etc. Submit regular safety reports / statistics as required
  • Maintain company account on client-required contractor safety websites (such as ISNetWorld, Avetta). Generally includes company policies, safety statistics, insurance documents, training documentation, and company profile information
  • Proactively prepare and research safety needs, trends and future expectations
  • Manage PPE selection, distribution, inspection and maintenance, including FR clothing program
  • Act as a primary contact, along with General Manager, for regulatory agencies regarding incidents or audits
  • Receive and address employees’ safety-related concerns
  • Calibrate, maintain, track and provide training on portable gas detection equipment


Qualifications

Specific Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in the development, maintenance and administration of safety policies and procedures
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of OSHA construction & general industry safety regulations
  • Able to work in construction and fabrication shop environments
  • Ability to perform daily inspections, associated reporting, and hazard analysis
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Experience with motivating and leading workforce towards a positive safety culture
  • Assertive but congenial demeanor, in order to confront problems and enforce regulations in a positive and effective manner. Able to foster cooperation, dialogue and teamwork toward a common goal.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

Education and/or Experience

  • BS in Safety Engineering/Science or related degree
  • Relevant safety certification(s) a plus
  • At least 5 years related experience in safety 
  • Approximately 15% travel to job sites
