The Senior Systems Engineer will provide expert level solutions and architecture for QSI’s growing IT infrastructure. This position will be key in architecting and implementing the future IT platform of QSI and providing guidance and mentorship to tier 1/2 IT staff members. Additionally, this position will have a focus on fully vetting and documenting the entire operational lifecycle of IT solutions and services. 

Responsibilities

The duties of a Senior Systems Engineer (SrSE) include the support a growing infrastructure spanning multiple sites. This position will work with management and team members to develop strategies and initiatives for the Corporate Enterprise IT (CEIT) team in support of business goals and objectives. The SrSE also ensures solutions are expertly selected, designed, and supported during the entire infrastructure lifecycle. The role requires deep knowledge of a technology range (including but not limited to Active Directory, enterprise class networking devices and enterprise class storage) where the SrSE will collaborate with other peers and colleagues to deliver and maintain infrastructure services to all sites within the business. 

 

Primary 

  • Expert understanding of Windows Server 2003-2016, Active Directory and core Windows infrastructure components, IIS, DNS, ADFS, DFS, PKI, etc.
  • Excellent Automation/scripting and systems support activities, including system integration and monitoring.
  • Excellent incident and project management skills.
  • Ability to contribute to and/or lead team projects.
  • Excellent prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • Ensure operating standards are developed, maintained, and adhered to.
  • Create and maintain documentation of systems processes and procedures.
  • Serve as a mentor for Tier 1/2 support teams.
  • Identify opportunities for infrastructure and process improvements. Assess new technologies. Architect and implement POC's and production implementations.
  • Work with internal and external customers, and development teams to ensure system configurations are in compliance with corporate security policies and control standards.
  • Work with other team members to identify and suggest service improvements and/or new technology solutions. 

Secondary 

  • Continuous learning of systems engineering skills and technologies.
  • Function as a liaison between CEIT and other teams within the company, which may include direct or indirect contact with our customers.
  • Any and all additional job duties as defined by IT management. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • 7+ years of designing and working with Windows Server operating systems and Active Directory
  • Knowledge of multi-tenant/SaaS/IaaS environments focusing on systems performance and high availability.
  • Excellent system and infrastructure design skills including but not limited to Active Directory, enterprise class networking and enterprise class storage.
  • Strong Experience in scripting/automation using PowerShell. Experience in other languages such as Python, Ruby, Java Script preferred.
  • Specific knowledge of the following technology areas:
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, Layer2 & 3 Network, storage, security compliance and virtualization technology.
  • Excellent understanding of networking concepts as they apply in an enterprise-class Data Center.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise class storage solutions.
  • Multi-site DNS architecture.
  • Web Server technologies (IIS, Apache).
  • Cloud integration experience preferred – AWS and/or Azure.
  • Application of and adherence to industry standards in regard to security as it applies to core Infrastructure technologies.
  • In depth knowledge of IT Service Management Framework and/or ITIL concepts and practices.
  • Analytical skills necessary to ensure assignments are scoped and implemented in a clear, controlled, and anticipated fashion.
  • Ability to quickly learn about methodologies and technologies for systems and applications, and to apply new knowledge in large scale environments.
  • Demonstrated clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in creating process and procedural documentation; technical and non-technical coaching experience preferred.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external customers; must be a self-starter, and work well in a team environment.
  • BA/BS with 8-10 years of IT experience (3 to 5 years working as a Senior Systems Engineer) in an Enterprise IT environment.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Enterprise Class Certifications (MCSE, CCIE, etc.).
  • Experience with GIS software.
