The applicant must be familiar with Section 106 compliance requirements and knowledgeable of New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) relating to cultural resources. Take initiative to complete tasks efficiently, on time, and within budget. Must be responsible for problem solving and communicating with Crew chiefs. Ensure the information from the field is of high standards to produce a quality and accurate report. This position is under general supervision of the Program Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Travel is an essential aspect of this position with the expectation of extended time in the field.
  • Physical ability to conduct extensive fieldwork in extreme weather.
  •  Assist with archival searches, surveys, monitoring, testing, and data recovery activities.
  • Experience with GPS devices with knowledge of GIS software and land surveying equipment.
  • Assist with recording in the field under the direction of a crew chief and/or Principal Investigator.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor’s degree in in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field.
• One year of experience in fieldwork (much in New Mexico).
• Familiarity with fieldwork and standard forms of New Mexico Historic Preservation Division and other land management agencies in New Mexico and Southwest.
