    NV5 is recruiting for an Senior Industrial Hygienist for work within a 50 mile radius of Carlsbad, NM. This is a Potential Future Opportunity.

    Responsibilities

    The Senior Industrial Hygienist will have a passion for the Safety and Industrial Hygiene (IH) field to help our clients achieve success in the health and safety of their operations.

     

    Required responsibilities of this position are:

    • Provide Safety and/or IH support in various topical areas.
    • Review and submit appropriate documentation.
    • Identify hazards, recommend hazard mitigation strategies, prepare and review permits (confined space, hot work, etc.), and determine task-specific personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Ensure personnel have the appropriate training.
    • Ensure project activities are conducted in accordance with job-specific requirements.
    • Develop and implement Job Hazard Analyses.
    • Perform field assessments and maintain a strong field presence in project activities.
    • Provide support for the field implementation of Safety and IH management requirements including client procedures, DOE Orders, and 10 CFR 851.
    • Participate in critiques, incident investigations, and corrective action management activities.
    • Prepare written industrial hygiene and safety reports, correspondence and communication.
    • Assist in integration of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) /Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
    • Review and implement safety and health policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations and orders from regulating entities and applicable regulations [i.e., Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1926/1910, 10 CFR 851, 10 CFR 850, and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)].
    • Operate various IH monitoring equipment such as noise meters, photo-ionization detector (PID), and multi-gas monitors.
    • Excellent verbal and written skills.
    • Provide safety support to the following operations:
      • Facility maintenance
      • Mining (surface and underground)
      • Security (armed)
      • Construction including oversight of construction subcontractors
      • Emergency Services (Fire Department and EMTs)
      • Medical Services (on-site medical clinic)

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or other related degree.
    • Years of experience – 5 to 8 years in construction, mining, facility maintenance, or industrial safety.
    • DOE experience preferred.

    Certifications/Licenses:

    • CIH certification preferred.

    Working Conditions:

    • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
    • The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures typically below 32°F for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
    • The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100°F for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
    • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

     

    • Physical Requirements:
      Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Background Check / Drug Screening:
      Candidates who are proposed will be required to complete a background check and drug screen prior to being hired.
    • Education:
      Verification of education will be required prior to employment.
    • Medical Requirements:
      Candidates may be subject to baseline medical monitoring depending upon client requirements.
