    We are seeking a Project Accountant to join our busy Accounting team. This position may be based in either our Andover or Boston office, with travel between the offices as needed. This is an excellent opportunity with growth potential for a recent Finance/Accounting graduate to begin their career.


    • Acts as main contact for select groups or project managers for all project accounting-related matters including job setup, budget setup, bill terms, invoicing, document filing, and project analysis.
    • Responsible for invoice review process, monthly project review process, and cancelled project process.
    • Responsible for timely and accurate invoicing of engineering projects and coordination of accounts receivable duties from the group to accounting staff.
    • Tracks and processes invoices received from sub consultants. Obtains Federal Tax ID numbers and insurance certificates for project consultants.
    • Participates in group meetings on a regular basis and acts as a resource to the group leader and project manager to assist them with the profitable management of projects.
    • Acts as the primary backup of other Project Accountants.
    • Evaluates dormant projects on a monthly basis for closing. 
    • Prepares contracts, sub-contracts, letter agreements, work orders, and fee proposals.
    • Follows up on outstanding proposals, contracts, and work orders.
    • Interacts with Principals, Group Leaders, and Project Managers on a daily basis regarding project accounting issues.
    • If necessary, explains to the client what the terms and conditions contained in the contract mean, in non-technical terms (plain English).
    • Communicates with clients regularly regarding contracts, amendments, invoicing, and other matters.
    • Provide contract reviews of letter proposals as prepared by Group Administrators prior to being issued to client.
    • Updates the project master files with all signed agreements and correspondence with clients.
    • Explains to accounting department any unusual contract terms and conditions, as needed.
    • May be responsible for upkeep of contract and proposal logs, monthly group reports; and bi-weekly overrun reports for select groups.
    • Provide support and assistance to Principals, Group Leaders, and Principals on contractual and budgetary matters.
    • Assists in resolving any questions about when a service should be billed to the client and the amount of the billing.
    • Keeps current in the language necessary in a contract to avoid liability claims.
    • Must be familiar with A/E standard contracts.
    • May be required to attend seminars, in order to keep current with regulatory requirements.
    • May be required to pursue contract education, to ensure proper procedures, regulations, and language are being used in developing proposals, contracts, etc.
    • Coordinates time off with other project accountants to ensure adequate coverage.
    • Prepares written procedures for tasks performed where none exist. Maintenance of written procedures and instructions for personal use and by others as needed.
    • Assists with quarterly document preparation for Audits as required. Budgeting of time and or commitment to some overtime may be necessary.
    • May conduct special assignments for the Principals, Group Leaders, Project Managers, Shared Service Finance Office, or Controller as needed.
    • Responsible for timely and accurate filing of various miscellaneous accounting documents.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related. In lieu of degree, may have some college coursework along with several years’ experience in accounting or bookkeeping. 
    • Must be proficient in developing spreadsheets, composing and typing letters and documents, and entering data.
    • Must be knowledgeable of accounting practices and of budget and project budget analysis for service-based firms.
    • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Deltek Vision accounting software experience a plus but not required. 
    • Contract or Legal experience in A/E industry a plus but not required.
