    The San Diego office has an imme­di­ate need for a Gas Line Designer / Drafter to work in the Survey and Civil Design Group performing gas line design and as-built drawings as well as civil design for site development, street/roadway, and wet utilities design projects. The successful candidate will work with surveyors, engineers and consultants to develop quality deliverables in a deadline-driven environment.

    Responsibilities

    The successful candidate must be an organized, detail-oriented, self-starter that will be responsible for the following activities: Prepare gas line design / construction drawings and as-built plans utilizing commonly used engineering software applications such as Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), with expertise in Civil 3D.

    • Support gas project design requirements, which include site visits, concept plans, and detailed construction documents and as-built drawings.
    • Perform calculations requiring knowledge of trigonometry, coordinate geometry, horizontal control, closures, construction cost estimates, and earthwork quantity analysis.
    • Assist in conducting preliminary and concept studies and designs to determine design criteria and operational requirements for site civil work and roadway projects, including logistics of construction phasing.
    • Perform design and drafting assignments on time and within budget.
    • Establish and maintain good working relationships both inside and outside firm by effectively communicating with the discipline and project team.
    • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.
    • Possibly oversee activities of Junior designer/drafters and other support staff.
    • “Go to” process and procedure person; occasionally act as Design / Drafting mentor.
    • Ability to determine appropriate drafting hours, and assist in budget and schedule development for proposals.

    Qualifications

    • The successful candidate will have relevant technical degree, and / or a minimum of 3 years experience on high pressure distribution and transmission gas design and drafting experience, including use of and expertise with AutoCAD software and Civil 3D modules, to create designs and plans.
    • Additional software skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Highly responsible, self-motivated, and able to thrive in an energetic, fast-paced, creative environment.
    • Strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
    • Hands-on; completes tasks; dependable; proactive in nature.
    • Knowledge of local (San Diego region) design criteria, practices, and protocols, including agency plan check procedures to signoff.
    • Have excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal).
    • Team player, with a strong sense of ownership and a 'get things done' attitude.

    The Designer / Drafter candidate will work with other office specialties and occasionally interact with clients, all in a collaborative effort toward common project goals.
