The successful candidate will perform environmental site investigation, fieldwork including drilling and well installation oversight, environmental sampling and site remediation monitoring, data management, analysis and interpretation, geological modeling, and permitting and report writing.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the local community, NV5 clients, and government agencies.
  • Plan and conduct engineering/ scientific work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and use of standards, techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Collect remedial design and operation data and prepare remedial system installation, operation, and maintenance documents. 
  • Supervise and control of drilling programs, geophysical and agrochemical surveys, and evaluation of data.
  • Prepare geologic maps, collect soil samples including soil, groundwater, possible asbestos containing material, and lead-based paint and make measurements that are analyzed.
  • Produce technical reports for the Company, joint venture partners and government agencies.
  • Interpret data and composes technical reports including maps and diagrams that recount the information gained from site visits and research, integrating field and laboratory data that illustrate the results of studies. 
  • Prepare Site Characterization Reports/ Remedial Action Plans on projects; coordinate pilot tests and cleanup system installation.
  • Gather, document and analyze geological data and logging soil boring in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
  • Perform and / or manage 2 phases of Environmental Site Assessments and remediation planning projects, as well as, routinely interacts with a diverse group of municipal and Federal government clients. 
  • Operation of field measurement equipment including various types of organic vapor analyzers, along with various drilling methods and techniques. Able to follow the ASTM regulation pertaining to Phase I property transfers.
  • Inspect properties for potential environmental problems/ liabilities, which requires focused attention to the site.
  • Research history and general information for each subject site with the use of local street directories, aerial photographs, and any other documented records and permits.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates for potential clients as needed.
  • Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
  • Troubleshoot problems with production and take corrective action. Devise new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Determine operations required, producing and developing processes to ensure quality, cost, and efficiency requirements are met.
  • Function as Project Manager when required; with responsibilities described in Project Manager position description.
  • Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as required and assigned by the Vice President or designee.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Geology.
  • HAZWOPER course certification is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills along with excellent oral and written communication ability.
  • Skill in the use of standard tools of the profession.
  • Experience writing technical reports and knowledge of environmental principles, techniques, and procedures.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus in order to read hand printed materials as well as computer documents. Operation of the following is required: telephone, personal computer including word processing software, copy machine, and fax machine. Current valid driver’s license. Ability to travel by automobile around the state as needed.
