Responsibilities

This person will support our growing New Mexico geotechnical, environmental, energy, and mining programs.

 

Various projects offer a geologist the opportunity to learn to conduct and manage the follo Finish wing activities:

  • Completion of groundwater monitoring and injection wells.
  • Application of remediation methods to groundwater and soil.
  • Installation of dedicated sampling systems.
  • Development and rehabilitation of monitoring wells.
  • Aquifer testing on single-zone and multi-zone systems.
  • Drilling, logging, and well construction in complex volcanic and sedimentary terrain, including basalt dacite, volcaniclastic sediments, fluvial deposits, ancient lacustrine deposits, and alluvial fans.
  • Operate and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment.
  • Operation of geophysical logging tools.
  • Performance of field surveys and use of GPS units.
  • Accurate and thorough documentation of field data.
  • Preparation of site characterization, well monitoring, and/or well completion reports
  • Preparation of abatement plans and permitting applications and associated reporting documentation.
  • Strong commitment to quality and timely delivery of services.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will gain technical and management expertise and management of all aspects of environmental issues and geotechnical projects. Project tasks will include, but not limited to, supporting environmental and geotechnical-based projects such as, due-diligence, characterization and remedial investigations, EP&P activities, as well as mining and utility licensing applications, and soils testing.

 

  • A MS Preferred; BS considered, in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and/or closely related field is required. 
  • Demonstrated environmental soil and groundwater sampling experience is required.
  • Good problem solving, writing, and time-management skills are required.
  • Intermediate knowledge in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point is essential.
  • Must be willing to travel and be in the field up to 50-75%.
  • Knowledge/experience in some or all of the following areas is needed: regulatory compliance programs (20.5 NMAC, Safe Drinking Water Act, NPDES, Pretreatment Program, NEPA, Pollution Prevention Programs, or Clean Air Act); remediation programs (RCRA or CERCLA); field sampling for soil, groundwater, surface water, or air; data analysis/reduction; and chemical fate and transport.
  • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus.
