NV5’s Nuclear and Environmental Services (NES) Group based in Albuquerque, New Mexico with other locations in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, Hanford, Washington, and San Diego, California has ongoing work requiring geotechnical engineering and design within their Albuquerque location in support of nuclear, federal, mining, alternative energy, transportation, commercial/institutional, environmental, and water resource clients.



Specifically, NES is looking for a senior level Geotechnical Engineer to support its ongoing DOE/nuclear projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and various ongoing other regional commercial/industrial, water resource, and transportation projects. This is a unique opportunity to support and further develop an integrated approach for business development and technical delivery of high end services for the DOE and commercial nuclear clients, and to work with a highly skilled team of senior engineers and scientists. NQA-1 compliance experience preferred but not necessary.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for technical activities associated with geotechnical engineering services including investigation and design. As a secondary responsibility, this person will be responsible to support planning and technical development of proposals, as well as business development and project management. The position will require the ability to develop complex scopes of work and proposals for field and office tasks (technical and non-technical) and independent analysis. The position will also require the oversight and/or performance of field exploration, sampling, inspection, in-house laboratory testing, analysis, and technical support services as well as provide coordination of various tasks associated with small to very large sized projects with on-going review and interaction by senior operations/technical staff. This position will also require the performance of training/mentoring for entry to mid-level technicians and professional staff as needed.


We are seeking a candidate who is eager to work in a team environment with demonstrated success in client development and technical delivery for our broad range of work. The successful candidate must be dynamic and self-sufficient but also very friendly and outgoing with a penchant for business development and an inherent appreciation for quality.


Experience: 15 - 20 years of geotechnical experience required. This should include a detailed and thorough understanding of all technical and construction-related elements of geotechnical engineering including, but not limited to: site characterization activities and methods; laboratory testing methods, standards, and analysis of output; analysis for shallow and deep foundations including lateral pile analysis; drivability analysis of driven pile foundations using wave equation analysis of piles (WEAP); settlement and consolidation analysis; lateral earth pressures on retaining walls and below grade walls; slope stability analysis for both drained and undrained conditions; stability analysis for rock slopes; excavation support for both soil and rock; groundwater seepage including construction dewatering and control of groundwater; geohazards analysis including liquefaction and lateral spreading; fill embankments; and pavement design for both asphalt and concrete.


Education : Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering is strongly preferred, however, candidates with Bachelor's degree in engineering (with geotechnical focus) may be considered depending on demonstrated experience.

Other Requirements: Authorized to work in the U.S., clean driving record, able to obtain DOE contractor badge which requires limited background check and pre-badging drug and alcohol testing.
