Job Title: Statistician

Role Overview: We are seeking a highly organized Statistician to join our technical consulting team. While we operate in the field of radiation protection, this is primarily a computational and statistical role. You will be responsible for interpreting complex historical datasets, developing robust models, and communicating findings to high-level stakeholders. The ideal candidate thrives when presented with novel data and possesses the discipline to manage client expectations with clarity and professionalism.

Note: This role is remote and requires U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Novel Data Modeling: Assess, clean, and analyze historical datasets to identify trends, biases, and exposure patterns.
  • Statistical Support: Able to analyze left-censored data.
  • Strategic Client Communication: You must be able to translate statistical methods into actionable, organized reports and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Methodology Development: Design and implement data mining strategies to extract meaningful information from fragmented or inconsistent historical records.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Provide statistical support to a team of Health Physicists, ensuring that dose reconstruction models are statistically sound and defensible.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Statistics or Biostatistics, with a strong foundation in data analysis and mathematical statistics. (A Bachelor’s degree may be considered with exceptional professional experience).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years in a dedicated statistical or data science role, preferably within a consulting or regulated environment.
  • Programming Proficiency: Advanced programming skills in R (required) or Python.
  • Critical Adaptability: Proven ability to apply statistical theory to "real-world" data that may not fit standard textbook models.
  • Consulting Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to remain organized, proactive, and articulate when balancing client requests and project timelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with Health Physics, environmental monitoring, or radiobiology is a plus, but not required for a candidate with strong statistical fundamentals.
  • Agency Experience: Prior experience working with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) records systems or similar federal regulatory frameworks (AEC, ERDA).
  • Dose Reconstruction: Understanding of internal and external radiation exposure monitoring techniques.

Security Requirements:

  • The ability to obtain a D.O.E. credential (U.S. Citizenship required).

Applicants must be able to pass a government security investigation and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

The pay range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.

All local employment laws apply. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.

NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k) and professional development/advancement opportunities.

NV5 provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, amnesty, or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
