Overview

NV5 Geospatial is actively recruiting a Kubernetes Engineer. Strong capabilities in designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications in a cloud-native environment are required. The Kubernetes Engineer will be based remotely supporting US Southern Command. US citizenship, along with the ability to successfully pass a basic background check for access to US military bases, is required for employment. While no clearance is required, a Secret or TS/SCI is preferred. 

 

Work Setting:

  • This role offers flexibility in location, with the option to work from any NV5 Regional Office or remotely from home.
  • Potential travel up to 5-15% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, deploy, orchestrate and maintain Kubernetes clusters tailored for each of IL2, IL4, and IL5 environments, ensuring support for Esri ArcGIS services and integration with client-provided infrastructure. 
  • Develop and manage Helm charts and Kubernetes Operators for declarative deployment and automated scaling of Esri services, including Notebook Server and GeoAnalytics Server. 
  • Configure persistent volume claims and provision container-native storage (e.g., AWS EBS, Azure Disks) to support Esri workloads, ensuring durability and compliance with backup and recovery policies. 
  • Integrate Kubernetes-native monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Fluentd, or OpenTelemetry) to support observability and IL-compliant reporting across environments. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requriements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cloud Computing, or a related field, or five (5) years of equivalent experience in Kubernetes administration. 
  • Demonstrated experience in deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters, troubleshooting containerized applications, and implementing service mesh architectures such as Istio or Linkerd. 
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible. 
  • Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure services (AWS, Azure, GCP), security best practices, and Kubernetes monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Ability to manage and prioritize complex project tasks. 

Preferred:

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language skills.
  • Experience with government IT programs and environments. 

Clearance Requirement: 

  • None required; US Government Secret or TS/SCI preferred.
