Overview

NV5 Geospatial is actively recruiting a Data Governance & Metadata Scientist. Strong capabilities in developing, maintaining, and optimizing an outward-facing data catalog integrating geospatial and research layers are required. The Data Governance & Metadata Scientist will be based remotely supporting US Southern Command. US citizenship, along with the ability to successfully pass a basic background check for access to US military bases, is required for employment. While no clearance is required, a Secret or higher clearance is preferred. 

 

Work Setting:

  • This role offers flexibility in location, with the option to work from any NV5 Regional Office or remotely from home.
  • Potential travel up to 5-15% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Implement data lineage tracking and metadata synchronization to ensure consistency across Databricks, Kubernetes, and research dashboards.
  • Support ontology-driven decision support systems, mapping structured and unstructured datasets to enhance data interoperability.
  • Develop automated metadata validation and quality control mechanisms, ensuring research datasets maintain compliance with DoD governance frameworks. 
  • Integrate metadata into platforms and implement tagging policies consistent with program standards.
  • Utilize GitLab pipelines and CI/CD tools for publishing and indexing routines.
  • Publish or embed outputs in approved web services for research dashboards intended for external access.
  • Utilize Azure-native indexing services such as Cognitive Search to implement federated metadata and research product discovery pipelines.
  • Ensure security boundary compliance. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requriements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field, or five (5) years of equivalent experience in data engineering, full-stack development, and metadata-driven data cataloging.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing interactive data portals, implementing API-driven search and data exchange, and integrating geospatial data layers into web applications.
  • Experience working with Databricks, Esri ArcGIS Feature Services, OpenLineage, and metadata management solutions.
  • Software development skills in Python, JavaScript (React, Angular, Vue), SQL, and RESTful API design.
  • Proficiency in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and implementing scalable, data-driven applications.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize complex project tasks. 

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer, AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty, or Esri Web GIS Developer Certification.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language skills.
  • Experience with government IT programs and environments.
