As our Distribution Designer I, under the supervision and direction of the electric design leadership team, you will develop a set of fundamental skills essential for electric distribution design. You will build on your existing strengths in communication, organization, and creativity in conjunction with learning utility standards to prepare construction drawings and other documents to design portions of projects as assigned.
Designers are part of project teams working on electric projects such as power line undergrounding and overhead system hardening to prevent fire in high fire threat districts and other distribution line projects. With guidance from their lead, Designers carry a full workload of multiple project assignments and are expected to prioritize work tasks to achieve submittals on time and on budget.
This position is based in NV5’s San Diego, CA office.

Other Responsibilities include:
Confer with other staff members to resolve problems, achieve milestones, and create construction documents.
Adhere to complex project work flows.
Perform engineering calculations and complete other supplemental design documents.
Prepare deliverables in a professional and organized manner.
Balance a full project workload with aggressive deadlines and fixed budgets.
Manage and maintain design records and files.
Gain familiarity with construction standards in order to best meet client and NV5’s expectations.
Prepare drawings of the projects designed accurately and in conformance with the applicable standards and regulations, and review all work for completeness before submitting for engineering review.
Perform field walks, document existing conditions, and/or recommend design solutions.
Minimal travel to client sites as needed (expected to be no more than 30% of time).

The pay range for this California position is $25.00- $35.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
