Overview

As a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conduct work require judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Responsible for overall supervision of project assigned. Resolves complex day-to-day problems of a mostly technical nature

This position will often serve as the contact person with the client, other design professionals, and contractors.

When in the role of project leader, the incumbent will coordinate and schedule the work of the project team members.

  Gives direction to less experienced Designers and Engineers. Assists in the development of staff.

Responsibilities

Supervisor and mentor screens assignments and gives directions to routine work. Receives close supervision on new assignments. All work is closely reviewed by others.

Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

Works alongside project engineers and Project Managers.

  May not exceed budgeted hours on task, change the scope of work or deviate from any part of the contractual document without approval of Project Manager or Group Leader

Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.

Performs work, which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of related specialties.

  • Proficient use of computer spreadsheets and design programs for engineering analysis and equipment

Qualifications

  • Recommended: 8 - 11 years professional experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering
  • Professional Registration is strongly desired.
  • Must be able to travel to work- sites as needed or
  • Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained Engineer who is capable of working on extremely complex
  • Must be able to communicate verbal and written instructions/directions to the project

  Professional Activities

  • Must be at least a member and on a committee of (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc).
  • Must be ready to deliver at least (1) existing prepared AIA credit presentation, white paper or article per year.

Physical Demands: Sitting for excessive periods of time and, depending upon the assigned project, there may be occasional bending, crawling, carrying a ladder, climbing, and walking.
