Overview

NV5 is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team.  The Senior Systems Engineer will provide expert level solutions and architecture for NV5 Geospatial’s growing IT infrastructure. This position will be key in architecting, implementing, and maintaining Geospatial IT infrastructure and providing guidance and mentorship to tier 1/2 IT staff members. Additionally, this position will have a focus on fully vetting and documenting the entire operational lifecycle of IT solutions and services.

Responsibilities

The duties of a Senior Systems Engineer include the support of a growing infrastructure spanning multiple sites. This position will work with management and team members to develop strategies and initiatives for the IT team in support of business goals and objectives.

 

This role also ensures solutions are expertly selected, designed, and supported during the entire infrastructure lifecycle. The role requires deep knowledge of a wide range of technology (including but not limited to Active Directory, enterprise class networking devices and various scripting languages) where the successful candidate will collaborate with other peers and colleagues to deliver and maintain infrastructure services to all sites within the business.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Expert level support and design of Enterprise Class Windows Server solutions.
  • Advanced level support and design of Enterprise Class server infrastructure and core services (AD, DNS, DHCP, SCCM, SCOM).
  • Excellent Automation/scripting and systems support activities, including system integration and monitoring.
  • Excellent incident and project management skills.
  • Ability to contribute to and/or lead team projects.
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • Ensure operating standards are developed, maintained, and adhered to.
  • Create and maintain documentation of systems processes and procedures.
  • Serve as a mentor for Tier 1/2 support teams.
  • Identify opportunities for infrastructure and process improvements. Assess new technologies. Architect and implement POC's and production implementations.
  • Work with internal and external customers, and development teams to ensure system configurations follow corporate security policies and control standards.
  • Work with other team members to identify and suggest service improvements and/or new technology solutions.
  • Application of and adherence to industry standards regarding security as it applies to core Infrastructure technologies.

Additional Responibilities:

  • Continuous learning of systems engineering skills and technologies.
  • Function as a liaison between CEIT and other teams within the company, which may include direct or indirect contact with our customers.
  • Any and all additional job duties as defined by IT management.
  • Create process and procedural documentation for use by the IT team.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Windows based enterprise systems such as Active Directory, Windows Server, Hyper-V, etc.
  • Excellent system and infrastructure design skills including but not limited to Active Directory, enterprise class networking and enterprise class storage.
  • Strong Experience in scripting/automation using bash or Phython. Experience in other languages such as Powershell or Perl preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of enterprise class networking (TCP/IP, Layer 2 & 3) design, troubleshooting and support.
  • Expert level knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, etc)
  • Excellent understanding of networking concepts as they apply in an enterprise-class Data Center.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise class storage solutions.
  • Strong understanding of DNS.
  • Experience with supporting web server technologies (IIS, Apache).
  • Cloud integration experience preferred – AWS and/or Azure.
  • In depth knowledge of IT Service Management Framework and/or ITIL concepts and practices.
  • Analytical skills necessary to ensure assignments are scoped and implemented in a clear, controlled, and anticipated fashion.
  • Ability to quickly learn about methodologies and technologies for systems and applications, and to apply new knowledge in large scale environments.
  • Demonstrated clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical and non-technical coaching experience preferred.
  • BA/BS with 8-10 years of IT experience (3 to 5 years working as a Senior Systems Engineer) in an Enterprise IT environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enterprise Class Certifications (RHCA, MCSE, CCIE, etc.).
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Infrastructure As Code
