Overview

The Technical Expert in Geodetics is responsible for developing and documenting workflows within a specific technology (geodesy) across multiple programs. Coordinating, training, and leading technical specialists, the Technical Expert leverages skills and ideas to initiate and promote continuous process improvement, as well as new program initiatives. The Technical Expert also promotes NV5 throughout the industry by contributing to publications and participating in conferences.

 

Work Environment:

  • Location:  NV5 Corvallis, OR office
  • Potential travel:  15-20% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as internal geodetic advisor for the broader NV5 geospatial vertical, researching best practices for tying into National Spatial Reference Systems and novel local systems, both domestic and abroad
  • Applying geodetic best practices by developing and disseminating standardized technical workflows and methodologies through continuous process improvement
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in geodetic science technology, updates and improvements to geodetic reference systems, and application to remote sensing activities
  • Tracks industry developments and attends technical conferences
  • Involved in industry/scientific publications
  • Supports project scoping and requirements gathering
  • Provides technical oversight and creates project deliverables as needed
  • Leads technical specialists in best practices, standards and workflow on establishment, communication
  • Coordination with other PS CFTs on best practices, standards and workflows
  • Train others on technical workflow and methodology

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • 3+ years’ experience in geodetic surveying applications

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to requirements):

  • Master’s or higher in science or engineering
  • 4+ years’ experience in both a professional and technical environment
  • 1+ years’ experience leading teams
  • Knowledge of Python, CADD, and Visual Basic
