NV5 is growing our Water Resources Team in Southern California with the addition of a Stormwater Compliance Inspector. This position offers an opportunity to develop monitoring and reporting skills in support of key stormwater compliance monitoring projects, water quality, and sediment and erosion control initiatives in Southern California. The selected candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of scientists, GIS experts, engineers, and planners who are dedicated to addressing complex water quality and regulatory challenges. Relative to the candidate’s degree and/or number of years of experience, the ideal candidate will perform compliance inspections, stormwater quality monitoring and sampling, and compliance program support for NV5’s Construction, Industrial, and Municipal clients. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of a Senior Consultant and will collaborate with professionals in water quality monitoring and assessment, hydrology, stormwater planning, and program management.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting private and municipal clientele with stormwater permit compliance projects.
  • Performing monthly compliance field inspections at construction and industrial sites, performing Best Management Practices (BMP) inspections, and providing corrective action reports.
  • Field work includes performing field observations, sampling, monitoring equipment installations, and operations and maintenance.
  • Data evaluation and report writing.
  • Frequent contact with clients, regulatory agencies, and outside contractors
  • Assisting in the preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for Construction and Industrial Permit Projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation of Water Quality Pollution Control Plans.
  • Preparing Sampling and Analysis Plans, Quality Assurance Program Plans, and Site Health and Safety Plans.
  • Management and data entry of facility information into state database systems such as SMARTS.

Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science (or similar degree)
  • QSP, CISEC, or CESSWI Certification is required
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in the Southern California Stormwater Industry
  • Knowledge of the Construction General Stormwater Permit, Industrial General Stormwater Permit, or Municipal Phase I or II Stormwater/NPDES Permits
  • Demonstrated experience with water quality studies
  • Strong data management skills (Excel, Word, other programs)
  • Ability to multitask and manage a variety of project activities
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit

 

The position will be located in our Torrance office and requires periodic local travel for inspections and fieldwork.

 

 

The pay range for this position in California is $32.69 to $40.87 per hour. The base pay offered may be higher or lower, depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, along with a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on the position offered.
