Overview

NV5 is actively recruiting a Graphic Artist & Cartographer within our eGIS group that has experience producing cartographic and data products involving a high degree of complexity for the Department of Homeland Security or other Federal clients.

Due to federal contract requirements, the candidate must be a US Citizen and capable of attaining a security clearance, if necessary.

 

Work Environment:

  • Location: Client site - Washington, DC metropolitan area
  • Travel: up to 15%

Responsibilities

  • Produce enhanced visualized depictions of data, documents, workflows, cartography, and analytical products involving a high degree of complexity.
  • Organizes, designs, prepares and revises technical illustration and graphics work.
  • Prepares rough sketches and completes orthographic and perspective drawings.
  • Operates computer graphics software programs to prepare and revise the format and type settings for graphs, charts, drawings, documents, block diagrams and schematics.
  • Considers color, shading, format, perspective and other display enhancements given reproduction medium.
  • Proofs work for visual appearance, completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs art paste-up work.
  • Create high quality graphics and graphic products for both print and electronic media.
  • Formalize visualization schema of cartographic maps and web-based applications which include assisting with the design, development, and implementation of graphics for GIS related products.
  • Prepare marketing and training materials for products, services, and announcements related to Department of Homeland Security-GIS.
  • Ensure that web and desktop applications have professional graphics and intuitive user interfaces.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree Requirements: BS/BA in GIS, Geography, Cartography, Graphic Design, or other related field w/GIS or High School Diploma with relevant professional industry/program certifications.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in data visualization, technical illustration, and graphic art for law enforcement, immigration, border security, homeland security, and/or military applications.
  • U.S. Citizenship required to comply with government contracts
  • Experience with complex cartography, photo and video editing, website design, generating graphics standards, document enhancement, map symbology, design and layout of web-based applications for information display (such as Dashboard, WebMap, and Experience Builder), and digital iconography.
  • Proficient with major graphics, and video design software packages including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign.
  • Experience in the basic development of web-based geospatial applications using ArcGIS Enterprise and printed marketing material.
  • Experience producing visualization products and materials that are For Official Use Only (FOUO) and Law Enforcement Sensitive (LES).
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical computer users in both one-on-one and small group situations.

The pay range for this Washington DC position is $80,000 - $100,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Medical, dental, and vision insurance are also offered to full-time employees, along with Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts, with employee and employer contributions.
