Overview

As a LiDAR Processing Technician, your primary responsibility will be to process and analyze Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data using TopoDot, for various applications, including topographic mapping, forestry management, infrastructure planning, and survey deliverables. You will play a crucial role in transforming raw LiDAR data into valuable insights and actionable information for clients and project teams.

Salary: $28.00hr-$35.00hr

Responsibilities

Data Processing: 

  • Receive, organize, and preprocess raw LiDAR data sets. 
  • Utilize specialized software tools to filter, classify, and calibrate LiDAR point clouds. 
  • Execute algorithms and workflows to derive terrain models, digital surface models (DSMs), and digital elevation models (DEMs) from LiDAR data. 

Quality Control: 

  • Conduct quality assurance checks on processed LiDAR data to ensure accuracy and completeness. 
  • Identify and rectify errors or anomalies in the data, collaborating with the data acquisition team if necessary. 
  • Classification and Feature Extraction: 
  • Classify LiDAR points into ground and non-ground categories. 
  • Extract features such as buildings, vegetation, and terrain characteristics from LiDAR point clouds. 

Spatial Analysis: 

  • Perform spatial analyses to derive meaningful insights from LiDAR data. 
  • Collaborate with GIS professionals and other stakeholders to integrate LiDAR data into broader geographic information systems (GIS) projects. 

Documentation: 

  • Maintain detailed documentation of processing methods, parameters, and results. 
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and insights derived from LiDAR data. 
  • Technology Integration: 
  • Stay current with advancements in LiDAR technology and processing techniques. 
  • Explore and implement new tools or methodologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy in LiDAR data processing. 

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in surveying, geomatics, or a related field. 
  • Previous experience as a Survey Office Technician or similar office-based surveying role is advantageous. 
  • Proficiency in surveying and CAD software, including AutoCAD and GIS software. 
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data processing and map preparation. 
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Familiarity with surveying standards and regulations. 
  • Knowledge of legal surveying practices and documentation. 
  • Time management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines. 

 

The pay range for this position in California is $28.00hr-35.00hr. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
