The Nevada City office of NV5 specializes in geotechnical engineering, offering expert services in site analysis, soil testing, foundation design, and risk assessment for infrastructure projects. The team in Nevada City is dedicated to providing tailored, reliable solutions to meet the unique needs of each project. As part of our overall mission, this office plays a key role in ensuring that geotechnical challenges are met with the highest standards of safety and sustainability, supporting both local and regional development through our specialized knowledge and engineering expertise.

Responsibilities

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs testing and measurements with the direction of project manager, lab manager or supervisors
  • Performs tests in conformance with established guidelines and standard specifications, such as those set forth by ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, etc.
  • Furnishes draft testing reports.  All discrepancies shall be brought to the immediate attention of the project manager, lab manager, or supervisor.
  • Notifies supervisor, and/or project manager of problems and deviations from plans and specifications.
  • Complete and comprehensive communication with project personnel to ensure the effective management of the project

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to learn laboratory test methods and operate laboratory equipment
  • Ability to move, lift, and store samples in accordance with our safety standard
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare laboratory reports
  • Insurable driving record
  • Valid CA Driver's License
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in geotechnical laboratory testing relating to construction material testing

 

Physical and Environmental Factors:

  •  Ability to safely and routinely lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, and frequent use of the telephone and keyboard to communicate.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Intermittently walk, stand, kneel, bend, reach and stoop.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must adhere to NV5 safety practices and policies.

Certifications and experience are a plus, but not required:

  • ASTM and Caltrans testing procedures for soil, aggregates, asphalt, concrete and masonry 

The pay range for this California position is $21.00 - $23.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
