Overview

Are you a problem solver? We are looking for passionate, driven Mechanical Engineers to join our Mechanical Industrial Team focused on delivering engineering solutions with an interest in Campus Utilities, Industrial Process, and Institutional customers.  Join a team of professionals with expertise in designing central energy plants, upgrading plant mechanical systems, and helping customers with those one-of-a-kind engineering challenges.  Develop solutions for industrial ventilation and HVAC systems. Perform assessments, develop studies, and design new systems and upgrades for all things mechanical in the built environment.  The Mechanical Engineer will perform mechanical engineering tasks under the supervision of a senior engineer and/or project manager.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, vendors and clients.
  • Take direction from multiple project team leaders and perform tasks with attention to detail.
  • Desire to work for higher education and industrial clients.
  • Desire to grow technically and professionally through attending workshops, engaging in professional societies, and self-directed training.
  • Gain knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards.
  • Obtain and document field data by conducting field visits to project sites both in and out of state. Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Develop plans, specifications and cost estimates for a limited number of concurrent projects.
  • Prepare studies, drawings or sketches as required; create final design documents under supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Apply knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics to solve engineering problems and select new equipment with desired performance capabilities.
  • Support construction activities, address RFIs and review shop drawings and submittals
  • Be familiar and current with building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or related field from ABET accredited engineering program
  • Completed coursework in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit software is desirable.
  • Experience with software mechanical design tools is desirable.
  • Successfully passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam administered by NCEES before starting at NV5 or within the first year.

 

Certifications/Licenses:

  • It is generally expected that entry-level engineers will take and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam within the first year of employment, earning the designation of Engineer-In-Training (EIT)
  • After four years of employment, it is generally expected that engineers will take and pass the NCEES Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam in their discipline, earning the designation of Professional Engineer in the state in which they practice.  Professional Engineers are expected to acquire additional licenses in other states where we provide engineering services.
