Overview

The Hydrographic Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the oversight and successful completion of multiple concurrent hydrographic and geophysical projects, ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals.  The PM will provide solutions to the client while working with diverse and potentially remote project teams. The PM oversees all phases of a project and is responsible for project performance through effective management of project constraints, including scope, timeline, and budget.  The PM will report status updates to management on a weekly basis and conduct a retrospective analysis at the close of the project to demonstrate potential process improvements and clearly outline constraint metrics.  The PM will ensure accurate and successful administration of project development, kick-off, reporting, invoicing, operations, and close-out through effective communication and documentation that follow our quality standards.  The PM will also collaborate with Team Leaders and management at NV5 to maximize efficiency and skillset utilization throughout the lifecycle of the project. 

 

Work Environment:

  • Location: Newport, NC at our NV5 Regional office
  • Schedule:  Onsite
  • Typical workday to expect: 90% office related tasks and 10% walking or moving equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel:  <10% of the time. Occasional travel and field work will be required; Travel as needed and adhere to a non-traditional work schedule to assist in Field Operations.

Responsibilities

 

Project Management - Conduct or oversee all required tasks for the following project phases: 

  • Initiation: Collect initial client requirements, identify assumptions, assess project feasibility, develop objectives and project charter, engage stakeholders. 
  • Planning: Create project portfolio, support logistics and schedule including resourcing needs, assist in business development efforts, support project estimation and proposal process, develop PM plan from project estimate by assigning labor and expense units, prepare procurement documents, hold kick off meetings. 
  • Executing: Create project documents, conduct procurement, supervise project work, implement changes, conduct status meetings, maintain communication with stakeholders and clients, oversee technical acquisition and processing tasks. 
  • Monitoring and Controlling: Measure project performance, perform quality control consistent with NV5's QMS, maintain project information in a pertinent database, verify scope, work closely with accounting, perform risk assessments and audits, reports to NV5 operations management, maintain client communications and expectations. 
  • Closing: Ensure final delivery of product to the client, seek feedback on the product and process, conduct project retrospective analysis for estimation and management improvements, communicate findings to Executive Team, update the lessons learned and process improvement database internally and for clients where applicable. 

 

Project Leadership - Conduct or oversee all required tasks involved in the following:  

  • Client management and communication 
  • Subconsultant management 
  • Team building 
  • Project administration 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, project management or a related field or 8+ years of commensurate experience. 
  • Proficiency in PC computing, spreadsheets, MS Office Suite 
  • 2+ years’ experience as a PM or technical project lead 
  • Active pursuit of PMP or other project management degree or credential 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hydrographic, topographic, and geophysical field surveys 
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint, Tableau 
  • Experience managing projects throughout a project lifecycle
