Responsibilities

NV5 is currently seeking Construction Inspection Professionals for full-time supervision of Urban Landscape and Site Reconstruction Projects in NYC Parks. Required is 3+ years of experience performing Resident Engineering and/or Field Inspection experience, preferably on municipal park reconstruction and restoration projects, preferably for the NYC Parks Department. Additional responsibilities may include supporting the larger NV5 Landscape Architecture Team with construction management duties on other projects, performance of constructability reviews for projects in design, assisting with the preparation of quantity take-offs and cost estimates. The work will involve primarily on-site contractor supervision on projects involving the reconstruction of urban public open spaces, including parks and recreation facilities, playgrounds, trails, sidewalks, streets, urban plazas, underground utilities and green stormwater infrastructure.

 

Specific Job Responsibilities: 

  • Construction Supervision:
    • Filling out daily reports and other standard Client Agency forms
    • Collecting and logging delivery slips, certificates and other paperwork from the contractor
    • Processing contractor payment requisitions
    • Tracking and facilitating the review and approval of RFI’s, submittals, change orders, quantity overruns,
    • Inspect, supervise, and control construction daily for overall site safety, permit compliance, and coordination with applicable agencies.
    • Inspect and coordinate installation of work to ensure contractor adherence to technical requirements and overall project goals.
    • Conduct on site measurements, quantity tracking during construction activities.
    • Attend applicable job-site meetings as required to discuss progress.
    • Follow project safety protocol.
  • Liaison with contractors and their sub-contractors as well as clients and owners
  • Contact and communication with the public
  • Must be able to understand and interpret construction documents including but not limited to:
    • Drawings including plans, sections, elevations, details, notes and tables.
    • Spreadsheets including bid tabulations, cost estimates and schedules
    • Written technical specifications
  • Must be able to conduct project and project-related research
  • Must possess a keen and intuitive grasp of site design, grading and drainage (a ‘design’ background is a plus)
  • Collaboration with allied professionals including engineers, environmental professionals and architects

Qualifications

  • University degree in Landscape Architecture or allied discipline (architecture, engineering, CM, etc.)
  • 3+ years minimum full-time work experience in the field of park and/or site construction
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Microsoft Project
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities and an ability to work collaboratively and effectively with contractors, municipal agency employees and the public.
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Credentials in, or general experience with arboriculture and or urban forestry/horticulture, tree protection measures is a big plus.
  • A professional license is desired but not strictly required, preferably an RLA, or RE or PE.
  • Possession of other relatable Agency and/or Industry Professional Certifications are also a big plus. Examples include OSHA Safety, MTA Facilities Safety/Access, DEP SWPPP Inspector, etc.

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:

  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.,
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. The pay range for this New York position is $75,000.00- $125,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
