Overview

The Land Cover team is responsible for deriving a variety of land use land cover (LULC) datasets from remotely sensed data sources - primarily aerial imagery. The Associate Team Leader supervises a team of knowledgeable staff on this team who perform production tasks required to move a project unit from data preparation to final delivery. These datasets are developed for various clients and are utilized in applications such as water resource management, habitat monitoring, and coastal resilience efforts. Responsibilities of this role include facilitating technical workflow, assisting in programmatic process improvements, monitoring project benchmarks, providing oversight of data quality control (QC), personnel management of technician through analyst level team members by tracking Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics, and providing professional mentorship. 

 

Work Environment:

  • Location:  NV5 Regional Office in Portland, OR (Must be able to work in-office, Not a remote position)
  • This position requires working in an office setting (home office or NV5 office) in front of a computer; there is no fieldwork component to this job. 
  • Travel:   <10% of the time

Responsibilities

Personnel Management of Team Members 

  • Supervises technical production team members by appropriately delegating tasks 
  • Implements and tracks individual and team KPIs (utilization, effective rate, etc 
  • Coordinates with individuals to establish, track, and progress towards professional goals 
  • Aids in hiring new team members 

Production Supervision and oversight  

  • Assists with workflow process improvements 
  • Supports proactive planning and communication of team resourcing needs  
  • Tracking data availability 
  • QC oversight of draft products and deliverables 
  • Ensures adherence to project-specific best practices and standards 

Project Management  

  • Assists in project archival tasks 
  • Assists project managers in tracking project progress toward deadlines 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and limited direction 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience   
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite 
  • 2+ years’ experience in a technical and professional environment 
  • 1+ years’ experience with GIS, data management, and production tracking 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree or higher 
  • 1+ years’ experience managing teams 
  • Desire to grow career by helping others to grow their careers 
  • Wide knowledge of the geospatial field
