Overview

NV5 Geospatial is currently seeking a Hydrographic Survey Technician based in Morehead City, North Carolina.  The successful candidate will assist with acquisition and processing of singlebeam, multibeam, sidescan and other surveys.  Duties may include small boat operation, hydrographic data acquisition and processing, equipment checks and maintenance, and completing regular survey logs.  The position will be based in Newport, NC with opportunities for travel for fieldwork.

Work Environment:

  • Location:  NV5 Geospatial Office in Morehead City, North Carolina
  • Travel:  This position will require periodic travel both in and out of state

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data acquisition using multibeam, singlebeam, sidescan, and other sensors.
  • Assist with the operation of precise positioning systems such as RTK-GPS, VRS, and DGPS.
  • Support data processing, analysis and reporting efforts.
  • Assist with basic calibration, integration, maintenance and repair of various survey systems & platforms.
  • Assist with and / or operate survey vessels and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Assist in planning, logistics, and supervision of survey and processing activities.
  • Assist in post-acquisition processing, reporting, QC, and cartography, calculations, and project evaluations.

 

Qualifications

Education / Qualifications:

  • BA, BS, or AAS degree in Geomatics or scientific discipline.
  • Experience working on boats and in the coastal environment.
  • Applicants should have work or educational experience in coastal science, coastal or offshore surveying, geomatics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with acoustic data acquisition systems (singlebeam, multibeam, sidescan) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with computers, basic file organization and data management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, self-manage and problem solve.
  • Ability to perform field work including travel and weekends, and the physical ability to lift objects over 50lbs.
  • A commitment to details and an enthusiastic attitude. 

 Certifications / Licenses:

  • Small vessel operation experience (with or without USCG licensing) preferred but not required.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
