Overview

The Technical Specialist works to support the Lidar or Ortho Team on various tasking. This individual provides oversight to technicians and other analysts in support of the team leadership. This position will work individually and as part of a team to support Lidar data production; producing finalized data deliverables based on client requests. The Technical Specialist has knowledge of all aspects of the Lidar/Ortho workflow and performs rigorous QA/QC and assists in training of analysts and technicians. A Technical Specialist produces consistent finished products and works to develop process efficiencies and improve methodologies.

 

Work Location:  Regional Office - Lexington, KY

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight to a team of technicians and analysts
  • Takes ownership of work within the team for execution and QA/QC
  • Produce and Understand Lidar/Ortho specifications and requirements
  • Create and understand the production of raster products
  • Visually inspect rasters
  • Know how to fix and address issues found in QC
  • Produce final deliverables ready to be delivered to the client
  • Management Focus:

  • Assists with detailed tracking and evaluation of projects, deadlines, workflow, and tasking
  • Ability to understand project contracts and scope of work

  • Aids in hiring new team members

Technical Focus:

  • Demonstrates good judgment in the selection of the methods and techniques in problem resolution and troubleshooting
  • Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to take complex information and convey it easily
  • Ability to improve data processes
  • Performs rigorous QA/QC and data finalization practices
  • Excellent technical ability with ESRI, Global Mapper, and Cad Programs
  • Ability to understand and run proprietary tools
  • Produces data reports and final deliverables
  • Ability to automate workflows and tasks
  • Takes initiative to improve processes and efficiencies
  • Strong creative aptitude and ability to contribute to the development of the unique methods
  • Can apply creative ideas in practical application
  • Works with the Team Leaders and Directors to:
    • Assist in process and protocol training
    • Assist in execution of internal projects and special initiatives
    • Creation of and implementation of special programs
    • Manage and support the day-to-day operations of the team
    • Assist in process improvement

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a Lidar or Ortho production role
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of TerraSolid (Lidar), Global Mapper, and ESRI Products
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in remote sensing production workflows
  • Proficiency in creating batch files to run command line tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or higher
  • Knowledge of Python, CADD, and Visual Basic
  • Proficiency with compression and file transfer software
  • 3+ years’ experience in a technical, professional work environment
